OAV
last saturday, i voted. this is the second time as an overseas absentee voter and a voting-age person of the philippines.
ever since i reached 18, i never registered for the elections. i never wanted to vote thinking the whole elections is a farce, a big lie. well, it still is.
until i became a migrant worker and realized how much we can use from that arena in advancing the over-all interests of people like myself. i don't have the illusions of course that it is the sole answer. voting is but one thing, it doesn't solve the whole question of maintaining and preserving democracy in the philippines.
anyone who believes that simply casting your vote and waiting silently and aimlessly for things to happen should get some serious spanking from my dear master-but-never-sadist friend.
this morning, i received an email from a fellow OFW. it was about the situation of OAV in the US. i couldn't help but laugh and feel sad at the same time. this excerpt below simply explains why we overseas absentee voters (OAV) will forever be disenfranchised:
For the most part, out of the 10 voting-by-mail instructions, only one instruction seems to be clear to most voters, that is: accomlish (sic) your ballot.
All the other instructions are confusing and therefore were not followed to the letter, i.e. 1) Detach the coupon, 2) Place detached coupon in the 'outer' evelope, 3)Place the ballot in the 'inner' envelope, 4) Seal the 'inner' envelope with the 'paper' seal for that purpose, 5) Place the 'inner' envelope inside the 'outer' envelope. 6) Seal the 'outer' envelope with the 'paper' seal for that purpose, 7) Sign whatever, and mail to the consulate or foreign service establishment. You get the driff (sic)?
Imagine this conversation for those who tried to call the Consulate to ask or clarify the Comelec's Voting by mail instructions. (Hmm..but have you ever tried talking over the phone to aural-challenged people like me?)
Consul: Hello, Good morning, can I help you?
Ano po ba ibig sabihin ng 'detach' yung coupon from the ballot?
Cutting the story short, if the Comelec personnel in San Francisco, (and I bet in some other places too), will follow to the letter their own rules, chances are, they may be invalidating a lot of received ballots because of not following the Comelec's CONFUSING instructions.
Another source that will confuse the COMELEC personnel in consulates and embassies are the COMELEC's pronouncements themselves. Accordingly, the SF consulate have not yet received any official ruling/communique from COMELEC HQ that Kuya Ted nor ?Cayetano, for example, have been disqualified or still in running. Kuya Ted is not in the official ballot, but Chairman Abalos said that he is still officially running, and Pesteng Cayetano is already disqualified but his name is still in the ballot. Paano ba yan bayan?

sm baguio

losing things
for the past two months now, bad things have been happening as precious things are either misplaced, stolen or broken out of sheer stupidity or mere carelessness.last march, i lost a samsung digital camera on my first day in vietnam. it was not mine and i felt really stupid and worried as to the owner's reaction to the loss.
last week, i misplaced my wallet containing a few hundred hong kong dollars (which was of course still big) and several identification cards (which of course were all important) - my hong kong id, my fitness card, my library card, my octopus card and several airmiles cards. stupid. stupid. stupid.
this morning, i broke my cellphone. as i was about to call to the philippines and slid open my nokia 5300, it slipped off my left hand, flew and landed thud! on the floor. i was on the mezzanine of our office and it fell on the ground floor.tonight, i just realized how concerned my not-so-close friend was on me when he phoned last night. he knew about my engagement with a common friend, who turned out to be kiss-&-tell. from the bean-spilling, he learned we did unrubbered sex and was he expressively worried. i wasn't worried that time until now.
people have varied reactions to loss. people who are poor, underprivileged fear the loss of things as what little they have are the most precious to them. for a few who have so much, they fear the loss of more than what they already have and probably what they haven't. others who stand up, fight for their rights and confront any kind of attack continue to come to terms with the possibility of losing their life. losing things is nerve-wracking enough. but possibly losing precious life unnecessarily to carelessness is far worse.
whatever value i hold of myself and my life i have to hold strongly and consciously on as there are more valuable things in life that i have committed to hold strongly and consciously on - like the lives of others.

pad thai
i just love pad thai. ever since a friend of mine made me taste one straight from the big wok of a thai pad thai vendor along the high way of rangsit near the thammasat university, i got hooked to it.i tasted one in amsterdam - not good. i got loads in hong kong - from good to not good (the one in admiralty, not good. the one near austin road, good... the one near jordan, uhm, no. in kowloon tong, just fine.)
in thailand, one has to traverse the great length of sukhumvit and the whole BTS line to be convinced where the best one is.
and i just have to say it is in thong lo. i was literally standing up and clapping my hands. ANG SARAP! AROY MA! DELICIOUS!
kung bakit oragon ang mga bikolanong bakla

ang mahiwagang wagawaga sa shangrila malaysia

kapag ikaw ay malungkot at nag-iisa, walang makasama, nangangailangan ng kalinga, pumunta sa pinang malaysia, duun sa shangrila rasa sayang, kung saan sasalubungin ka ng isang front deskman na bungal (with a greeting, WELCOME HOME!) at makikita sa may lobby area, malapit sa swimming pool ata or somewhere, ang mahiwagang wagawaga wands.
mamili ka.

the man who would be my 300th
siguro simplistic lang talaga akong mag-isip. i have always thought relationships to be easy and simple. you just have to work your way through many crevices, patch up those holes, sew up those snitches and learn to crouch when basically the whole thing has gotten small.i don't know if i could say this to gerard. but he may be one very interesting conversational piece.

wearing the diaper
dami kong gustong ikwento pagdating ko mula sa bangkok: mga kinain ko, pinuntahan ko (sayang di ko nakunan ang babylon), nakausap kong tao, sinakyang mga sasakyan (at tao), atbp.kaso, naiwanan si mister pc for 5 days after akong atakihin ng seizure (first time) last friday. i was rushed to the hospital, injected with valium, made to stay in bed for 5 days straight, examined by more than 14 doctors, went through ctscan and eeg, attempted a lumbar puncture but failed, endured several injections on skin (not a virgin anymore), experienced a diaper on at my age, slept, ate and waited for hours on end until i was eventually kicked out this afternoon.
i am happy to be out. but i must say, i am still dizzy from the hallucinating feeling of freedom.
